Jesus and his disciples happened upon the widow as her recently deceased and only son was being carried out of the town on a funeral bier. The widow wept. Jesus had compassion on her, and said to her, “Weep not.” Jesus approached the bier and said to the corpse, “Young man, I say unto thee, Arise!” (KJV, Luke 7:13, 14) The young man sat up and was reunited with his mother. The crowd was amazed and joyful. Word spread of Jesus throughout Judea.
