What is the Song of Solomon about?

The Song of Solomon is a collection of poems celebrating love. Scholars continue to debate the type of love described in the book. Some say the love is that between a man and a woman. Some say the love imagery is symbolic of God’s love for his people. The book might have been written in the tenth century B.C.E., or as many as five or six hundred years later. The language in the book is noted for its sensuousness and its vivid imagery.
