What is the St. John Fragment?

The St. John Fragment is a tiny piece of papyrus. It measures 3.5” × 2.5” and came from a codex, or a collection of bound manuscripts. On the fragment is written part of the Gospel of St. John. The fragment was in a cache of papyri purchased for the University of Manchester (England) in 1920. The fragment is on display at the John Rylands Library at the university.
