There are a variety of closely related meanings. The Jewish people expected a new political kingdom. Jesus had something else in mind. Jesus wanted his followers to realize that part of the kingdom was knowable to them right then when they demonstrated love, joy, and peace in Jesus’ name. Also, Jesus wanted his followers to realize that the kingdom will be revealed fully when God returns to earth.
