The laws cover a range of issues. One law made it a sin to eat or drink blood. God said, “For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.” (NIV, Leviticus 17:11) Other laws made it a sin to sacrifice children or to prostitute daughters. Some laws pertained to sexual relations, idolatry, honesty, and keeping the Sabbath, while other laws pertained to handling corpses, and being generous to those less fortunate.
