Joseph said that the three baskets represented three days. Then, without tact but plenty of honesty, Joseph explained, “Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head—from you!—and hang you on a pole; and the birds will eat the flesh from you.” (NRSV, Genesis 40:19) Showing forbearance, Joseph did not ask any favors of the baker.
