Centuries of weather, building and razing, and living and dying have piled layers upon layers of sediment and debris onto the artifacts sought by biblical archaeologists. Much of the land where biblical cultures existed has been in constant use since ancient times. Because people live and work in these areas, many artifacts are simply inaccessible. Considering how many untold artifacts have been decimated by the effects of time or are physically inaccessible, it is safe to say that what artifacts have been unearthed are just a tiny fraction of what lies buried. So, although some people argue that the dearth of biblical artifacts suggests that the events in the Bible did not take place, it is worthy to consider the old saying, “Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.”
