The act of loving people. John mentioned love many times in this letter. He wrote, “Whoever says, ‘I am in the light,’ while a brother or sister, is still in the darkness. Whoever loves a brother or sister lives in the light, and in such a person there is no cause for stumbling.” (I John 2:9–10) He wrote also, “Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (NRSV, I John 4:8)
