Three women inherit land. In a patriarchal society such as the Israelites had, this was worth noting. The women—Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah—were daughters of Zelophehad. Zelophehad died in the wilderness, but not because he was one of the ones who mocked God. He died without sons, so God told Moses it was acceptable for the inheritance to go to his daughters.
