Joseph had overseers collect one-fifth of the land’s produce during the prosperous years and store it. The stored food would be a reserve for when the famine came. When the famine came, Joseph sold the food to the Egyptians. Because the severity of the famine was widespread, people came from other countries to buy food as well.
