In the letter, Peter encouraged believers to keep growing in faith, resist false teachings, and not be discouraged that Jesus was not back yet. Peter wanted the believers to review and remember what he said after he died. He knew his death was imminent: “I know that I’m to die soon; the Master has made that quite clear to me.” (The Message, II Peter 1:14)
