The angels visited Lot so they could warn him that they were sent by God to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. The angels warned Lot to get his family and leave immediately without looking back. Lot hemmed and hawed a bit, but finally left. God told them not to look back or they would be consumed. Lot’s wife, hurrying along with Lot, looked back and was turned into a pillar of salt.
