The Lamb told John that he would give the two witnesses authority to prophesy for 1,260 days. That is three-and-one-half years. Three-and-one-half years is half of seven. In the Bible, seven represents completeness and holiness. Three-and-one-half, then, represents chaos. While prophesying, the witnesses were to wear sackcloth, a sign of repentance.
