What were some of God’s specific complaints against the people? |
“They know no limits in deeds of wickedness; they do not judge with justice the cause of the orphan, to make it prosper, and they do not defend the rights of the needy.” (NRSV, Jeremiah 5:28)
“For their tongues aim lies like poisoned arrows” (NLT, Jeremiah 9:8)
“Like a scarecrow in a melon patch, their idols cannot speak; they must be carried because they cannot walk.” (NIV, Jeremiah 10:5).
“The bones of the kings of Judah, the bones of its officials, the bones of its priests, the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem shall be brought out of their tombs; and they shall be spread before the sun and the moon and all the host of heaven, which they have loved and served, which they have followed, and which they have inquired of and worshipped; and they shall not be gathered or buried.” (NRSV, Jeremiah 8:1–2)
“Therefore I will give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall inherit them: for every one [sic] from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.” (KJV, Jeremiah 8:10)
