He saw the results of God’s judgment on the people and the planet: “I beheld the earth and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light. I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.” (KJV, Jeremiah 4:23–24)

Also, Jeremiah saw two baskets of figs placed before the temple. One basket had good figs. The other basket had bad, inedible figs. God told Jeremiah that the basket of good figs represented the remnant of people God planned to bring back from captivity. The basket of bad figs represented those, especially King Zedekiah, who consistently disobeyed God. (Jeremiah: 24:3–10)

God told Jeremiah to go to the potter’s house. Once there, Jeremiah saw the potter at work on his wheel. The piece he worked on became misshapen, so he reworked it into another piece. God told Jeremiah, “Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.” (KJV, Jeremiah 18:1–6)
