The Pentateuch

What were the responsibilities of the Levites when the Israelites traveled?

The Levites were responsible for the care and keeping of the Tabernacle, and all that went with it. Moses and Aaron divided the Levites into their smaller clans, and assigned each clan a specific task. For example, the Kohathites prepared the Ark of the Covenant for travel and carried it to the next location, using the acacia wood poles overlaid with gold. The Gershonites carried the curtains of the Tabernacle, the curtains for the courtyard, and the coverings for the Tabernacle.
