No one knows for sure, but that does not stop people from trying to figure it out. Irish bishop James Ussher (1581–1656) came up with a theory. Using the Jewish calendar and astronomical charts, Ussher theorized that creation began early in the morning on October 23, 4004 B.C.E. This date was accepted widely until the nineteenth century.
