The tabby cat. There are several legends about how the tabby cat came to have a mark in the shape of an “M” on its forehead. A Christian legend describes how, on the night Jesus was born, a cat climbed into the manger with him to keep him warm. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was appreciative, so she stroked the cat’s head, thus marking it forever with M for Mary or Madonna.
