Who was James? |
There are two possibilities. One was James the apostle. The other was James the brother of Jesus. If the author was James the apostle, the letter predates 44 C.E., because that is the year James was executed by Herod Agrippa. If the author was the brother of Jesus, the letter dates from the early 60s C.E. James, the brother of Jesus, was executed by local Jews around 66 C.E. The letter was written to believers outside Israel, particularly Jewish Christians.
