The visitor was an angel of God. He woke Peter, and told him to get up and leave the prison. The chains fell off Peter’s wrists. Peter stood and followed the angel out of the prison. Peter thought he was dreaming. He did not realize his escape was real until he was outside the city gates. Then the angel left.
