Why did Jacob not call Benjamin the name his mother gave him?

The name Ben-oni means “son of my sorrow” or “son of my pain.” The name Benjamin means “son of my right hand.” So perhaps Jacob used the name Benjamin to honor Rachel, who was his favorite wife, or to make a statement about power (the right hand being considered stronger than the left), or to downplay the sadness surrounding Benjamin’s birth.
