This find is important because it marks the earliest known written reference to the God of Israel outside of the Bible. Israel did not perish everlastingly. As with the Merneptah Stele, most scholars believe the boast was the exaggeration of a warrior or the description of an interaction with a small group of Israelites. The Mesha Stele is on permanent exhibit at the Louvre in Paris, France.
