Why was Pharaoh mad at the Israelites?

Pharaoh said to the Egyptians, “Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we.” (KJV, Exodus 1:9) Pharaoh was afraid the Israelites would overpower the Egyptians. Still, he did not want the Israelites to move away, because he could use them as his slaves.
