Apocrypha

Why were these books considered “hidden”?

No one knows for sure. At any rate, the Catholic Church and some Orthodox churches kept some of the Apocrypha as part of their canon, and continue to do so to this day. However, these churches do not use the term Apocrypha. They refer to these books as being “deuterocanonical.” While Protestants do not deny the usefulness of these books, they do not accept them as Holy Scripture.
