Gospels and Acts of the Apostles

With what crimes was Jesus charged?

Sedition and blasphemy. A false witness twisted what Jesus said about the temple: “Truly I tell you, not one stone will be left here upon another; all will be thrown down.” (NRSV, Matthew 24:2) The false witness misquoted Jesus thus: “I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.” (NRSV, Matthew 26:61) Then when a priest questioned Jesus about whether he was the Messiah, Jesus responded, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” (Matthew 26:64–65)
