Chromosomes

How can organisms with just one set of chromosomes reproduce?

An organism that is haploid (one set of chromosomes) can reproduce by mitosis to produce more haploid cells or a multicellular haploid organism. This is typical of some algae and fungi. (For more about haploid cells and mitosis, see the chapter “Cellular Basics.”)
