Digestion

What are the steps of food processing for animals?

The first step in digestion is for animals to ingest food. The food is then broken down via the digestive process into molecules; once the food is digested, it is absorbed through the digestive tract to provide energy for the organism. The final step of food processing is elimination—the undigested material is passed out of the digestive tract.
