“Frankenfood” is a term invented by environmental and health activist groups to denote any food that has been genetically modified (GM) or that contains genetically modified organisms (GMO). Opposition to GM food is based on concerns that the gene pool of “natural” plants could be altered permanently if exposed to pollen from genetically altered plants. A fear also exists that people and animals that consume GM food might have allergic reactions to altered protein or could develop health problems later.
