What is a base pair? |
The phrase “base pair” is a way of describing the length of DNA. Since most DNA is double-stranded, every nitrogen base containing nucleotide on one strand of the molecule is paired with a complementary base on the other strand. Thus, “ten base pairs” refers to a segment of DNA that is ten nucleotides in length and two strands in width.
