Animal Behavior

Animal Instinct, Learning, and Emotions

What is cooperation in animals?

Cooperation in animals is a social behavior that allows individuals to carry out a behavior—such as hunting—which will make the group more successful than if they carried out the behavior separately. For example, lions, wild dogs, and coyotes will hunt in a pack; their cooperation allows the prey to be caught more efficiently than if just one animal attacked.
