What is ethology?

Ethology is the study of organism behavior and its relationship to its evolutionary origins. It emerged in Europe in the mid-1930s and was first recognized as a subdiscipline of biology. It differed from traditional biological studies of animals in that scientific principles were applied to the study of animal behavior, with practitioners using both field observations and laboratory experiments.
