Scientific creationism is an attempt to promote the teaching of creation theory in schools. By designating creationist theory “scientific,” proponents hope to gain equal time with evolutionary theory in school curricula. Creationist theory proposes that species observed today are the result of “intelligent design” or special creation rather than the result of the effects of natural selection.
