What is the difference between Type I and Type II diabetes?

Diabetes mellitus is a hormonal disease that occurs when the body’s cells are unable to absorb glucose from the blood. Type I is insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), and Type II is noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). Insulin is completely deficient in Type I diabetes. In Type II diabetes insulin secretion may be normal, but the target cells for insulin are less responsive than normal.
