Lichens

What lichens are often used by the perfume and cosmetic industries?

The musklike fragrance and fixative properties of lichens known as Evernia prunastri and Pseudevernia furfurnacea make them popular components of perfumes and cosmetics. The essential oils of these lichens are extracted with solvents; both lichens are common to southern France, Morocco, and the Serbo-Croatian peninsula.
