The kingdom Plantae (plants) now includes all eukaryotic organisms that have chlorophylls a and b as part of their photosynthetic package—they obtain most of their energy from sunlight through photosynthesis using chlorophyll contained in chloroplasts (chlorophyll is the pigment found in the chloroplasts that give plants their green color). The kingdom in some classifications may also include plants that are parasitic and may not produce normal amounts of chlorophyll or photosynthesize. This kingdom includes green algae (such as Ulva and Chara), flowering plants, conifers, ferns, and mosses.
