Gettysburg: The Second Day

How many Chamberlain brothers were involved?

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain commanded the regiment. His younger brother Thomas was a lieutenant, and still another brother, John Calhoun Chamberlain, was present as a volunteer for a Christian commission. There was a moment before the battle was completely joined when an artillery shell burst close by, and Colonel Chamberlain ordered his two brothers to stay far from him, adding that another shell like that could make it a “hard day for Mother.”
