What about the numerous “made-for-television” series on the Civil War?

John Jakes’ novels were made into series during the 1980s, and several other attempts have been made, but the Civil War does not, generally speaking, thrive on the small screen. The battle scenes, as well as the romantic partings of friends and lovers, fairly cry out for the wide-angle lens and the ability to let the camera linger.
