Where was Bragg’s first major invasion? |
Bragg had gone north, into Tennessee, in August 1862, his invasion paralleling that of Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia into Maryland. Bragg’s invasion had, in some sense, been more successful, but the Federals mustered large numbers to bear on him, and by December 1862, the Army of the Cumberland, headed by William S. Rosecrans (1819–1898), was in a position to push Bragg out of the state altogether.
