Where was Secretary of State Seward?

By one of those odd coincidences with which the Lincoln assassination is replete, Secretary of State Seward was confined to his bed on Good Friday, April 14, 1865. Two weeks earlier, he had been in a carriage when the horses made a getaway run; anxious to escape the carriage, Seward jumped out, taking severe wounds to his shins and face. He was, therefore, in bed when someone came to kill him on the evening of April 14.
