Who were the men coming against Chamberlain and the 20th Maine? |
Colonel William C. Oates led the 15th Alabama, which was coming straight for Chamberlain’s men. The Alabamians were a crack outfit who had demonstrated their skill in numerous battles; they excelled at this kind of attack. But as they made their way up Little Round Top, they ran into rifle and musket fire that the oldest of veterans described as simply murderous.
