The Carcharodontosaurus (meaning “shark-tooth lizard”) was a large theropod that rivaled the Tyrannosaurus rex in size. Fossils of this dinosaur were found in Morocco; the animal lived around 110 to 90 million years ago. The skull alone measured almost 5.5 feet (1.7 meters). The first Carcharodontosaurus was discovered in 1931, and was identified from an incomplete North African skull and a few bones. The remains were later destroyed during World War II. The most recent remains were found in 1996 and are even larger than the old specimen.
