San Bernardino County in California is the largest, at 20,000 square miles (51,800 square kilometers). It stretches from metropolitan Los Angeles to the Nevada/Arizona border. The smallest county in the United States is Kalawao, Hawaii, at 13 square miles (33.7 square kilometers), which has a very small population of only 130.
