What do the Sandwich Islands and Hawaiian Islands have in common?

The Sandwich Islands and Hawaiian Islands are actually the same set of islands. In 1778, when Captain James Cook discovered the islands, he named them the Sandwich Islands. Gradually, the islands began to be known by their indigenous name of Hawaii. Cook named the islands after his supporter, John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich.
