What is one of the only countries in the world to provide constitutional protection to gays, lesbians, and bisexuals

South Africa’s 1996 constitution protects gays, lesbians, and bisexuals against discrimination in both the public and private sectors. The “Equality Clause” in the Bill of Rights protects people from discrimination based on race, gender, pregnancy, marital status, ethnic or social origin, color, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, conscience, belief, culture, language, and birth.



A building at the Murambi Technical School in Rwanda remains as a memorial to the 40,000 people who were killed there during the 1994 genocide.
