What is the world’s most commonly spoken language

Over one billion people around the world speak Mandarin, the official language of China. Other languages spoken in China include Yue (Cantonese), which is spoken by 71 million people; Wu (Shanghaiese), spoken by 70 million; and other minority languages such as Minbei (Fuzhou), Minnan (Hokkien-Taiwanese), Xiang, Gan, and Hakka dialects.
