How is someone sainted?

Criteria for sainthood (also called canonization) are leading a holy life, conducting miracles, and suffering or even dying because of one’s faith (martyrdom). The Catholic Church keeps a list of saints, from which certain names were dropped in 1969 since their inclusion could not be justified by history.
