Natural and Man-Made DisastersFloods |
What is the worst flood in history? |
The worst flood to date occurred in China in 1887, when more than 900,000 people died as the Huanghe (Yellow) River overflowed. China is particularly susceptible to severe and regular flooding; the Huanghe River alone typically floods two out of every three years. And because river valleys are densely populated, the human toll is often great. A 1939 flood in North China claimed more than half a million lives.
