When was the first kindergarten?

The world’s first kindergarten opened in 1837 in Blankenburg, Germany, under the direction of educator Friedrich Froebel (1782–1852). Froebel went on to establish a training course for kindergarten teachers, and he introduced the schools throughout Germany. Such schools and classes for children ages four to six are the norm today in much of the world.
