Who was the first physician in history?

The first physician known by name was Imhotep, an Egyptian who lived about 2600 B.C. Also considered a sage, Imhotep lived at a time when the Egyptians were making progress in medicine. The advances included a textbook on the treatment of wounds, broken bones, and even tumors. Imhotep was later worshiped as a god by the Egyptians.
