How do mutual funds justify high fees and expenses?

Some mutual funds justify their high fees because of the cost to employ the many hundreds of managers and analysts who work to bring the high returns investors desire. But these same managers may be no better than managers of funds with fewer expenses. All things being equal, it is best to find funds with the highest returns, the least risks, and lowest fees.
